Welcome to the Slush Pile
- So you want to submit. That's great, let's get a few things out of the way first.
- We are and always will be a paying market. Why? Because we miss the days where writers could actually support themselves with their writing. We can't lower rents, or food costs, but we can pay you fairly for what we publish.
- If we select your stuff we'll send a more detailed agreement, maybe even one written by a lawyer. Until we can afford to hire a lawyer it'll just be a more detailed version of the details you read on the page that took you here.
- Everything is up front and clear, everyone gets royalties based on the sales, and the contributors collect 80% of the revenues, the editors get 20%. Oh yeah amazon, blood suckers that they are, get their cut before the rest of us see a dime.
- There is a catch. After thinking long and hard about how to support writers and artists with a paying market, while giving them the lion's share of the royalties, we decided we need to charge reading fees.
- I know you're out raged, but it's necessary to keep the royalties so high. Here's the thing, you can pay the three dollar fee every time you submit, or you can simply buy an annual subscription(8.36) and avoid the fees.
- Honestly if you printed your submission and mailed to us with a SASE, like they did in the old days, you'd spend the three bucks. Doing it this way your three bucks, or your subscription, help to support Yellow Matter Custard and every one who submits.
- With all that being said here's the link to submit.
